I find inspiration in the patterns and colors around me. While hiking in a verdant forest or paddling a coastal bay, all my senses become alert to my environs. As an artist, I want to share those sensual experiences with others through the unpredictability of water and paint as they blend into surprises in front of me. One of my fans has said, “Sharon captures the essence of Nature.” This is my focus as I use a variety of techniques to render the spirit of my encounters into two-dimensional paintings. I layer colors to give my paintings the soft, luxurious feel of pastels, or paint loosely depending on the subject matter. The element of light and how it plays on subjects intrigues me, as do the textures and harmony of Nature.

Since I could hold a crayon, I spent rainy, Oregon days immersed in artistic endeavors and dreaming of being outside. After winning art awards at a young age, I continued to draw, paint, create with clay, and sell my art at the iconic Portland Saturday Market during college breaks. My artistic efforts went back into painting after a rewarding teaching career, now specializing in watercolor and acrylic works. What is most important to me is connecting with others through my art. The natural world is there to interpret and explore.
